Samidorphan is an opioid antagonist designed to counteract the weight gain often caused by olanzapine. While Lybalvi is not an opioid, the inclusion of samidorphan means it cannot be taken by individuals who are currently using or withdrawing from opioid medications.

Like all prescription drugs, Lybalvi can cause side effects ranging from mild to severe. Common mild side effects include sleepiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, headache, and constipation. Although samidorphan helps mitigate weight gain, some patients may still experience changes in weight and metabolism, including elevated cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
