How Zetia Works to Lower Cholesterol
Unlike statins, which work primarily in the liver, Zetia belongs to a class of drugs known as intestinal cholesterol blockers. It works by preventing the intestines from absorbing cholesterol from food and bile. This allows the body to more effectively clear excess cholesterol from the bloodstream, reducing overall cholesterol levels and lowering the risk of cardiovascular complications.

While Zetia is generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience mild side effects. Common issues include joint pain, diarrhea, muscle cramps, and respiratory infections.
